The Red Deer is Denmark’s largest contemporary mammal on land. A full-grown male can weigh up to 230 kilos; the average weight, however, is “only” 140-150 kilos for males and 90 kilos for females. After almost reaching extinction in Denmark in the mid-1800s, there are now big, wild herds in both Western Jutland, Djursland, the Central Denmark Region, Himmerland, and Thy. Did you know the males are called stags and the females does?
